Hybrid Supercapacitors Validated as a Safe Choice for Energy Storage
Withstand ‘Abusive’ Testing by Independent Lab

And now there’s proof. ATX recently contracted an industry-leading, third-party lab — Energy Assurance, a part of Element Material Technology — to run ATX’s Areca™ Hybrid Supercapacitors through a series of abusive tests to validate their safety. As the name suggests, these tests are designed to simulate the harshest electrical and physical conditions imaginable. Energy Assurance technicians froze, scorched, overcharged, over-discharged, dropped and even drove a nail through the ATX hybrid supercapacitors, with no signs of thermal runaway, off-gassing or cell damage.

Thermal runaway, an event that can be triggered when electrochemical batteries (Lithium-based or lead-acid) are overheated, poses a fire risk that is nearly impossible to stop and emits toxic gases. While recent battery design enhancements have reduced the chances of this danger, thermal runaway is still a risk with electrochemical batteries. Unlike lead-acid and lithium-based batteries, Hybrid Supercapacitors are electrostatic — posing no risk of thermal runaway as no chemical reaction/conversion takes place in this breakthrough energy storage technology.
